I have finally finished the going through all of the slides and notes to compile everything for the study guide for the final exam. It was a long process due to wanting to understand all the questions and topics that could be on the exam. I want to do extremely well so i took the time and effort to make sure that I understood the material.

Finished up my outline for week 8 assignment. The assignment got a little confusing towards the end, so I looked up class slides to see if they would help. They helped a little, I am googling so more information to hopefully clarify the questions that I have from the assignment.

Today I started the week 8 assignment and reading the article, I choose to do the first option. I am finding it interesting to see the comparison between European traffic and the problems that they encounter in comparison to what the United States deals with. To adjust to my learning style I am doing an outline, and am filling it in with additional knowledge that I have learned from class and outside research.

Today I am also adding my quiz reviews to my blog to show my actions in completely my goals is excelling in the quizzes. In doing this I have done all of the suggested quiz questions, and additional ones that I did not understand from the discussion board. This has helped me a lot with my grades in the quizzes!

Today there was a lot of time that went into this assignment, I finished watching the videos of Very Young Girls while taking notes for the paper. After finishing the videos I took a little break to read over the notes and figure out what path that I wanted to take for the paper. Then wrote the paper, the process of writing it wasn’t too bad I felt that I had a lot of opinions and knowledge that I could put into the paper. I also feel that taking notes for the paper helped a lot because I could read over things that I felt were important and make sure that I added it into the paper. Very helpful tip for videos that are this long! I adapted this assignment to make it work for me by taking the notes and creating an outline in that format. I felt that I got to add things from my notes that I took in lecture and fill in that outline I made from the videos. I liked this assignment because it was knowledge and my opinion and reflecting back on to lecture as well!

Today I went throw and watched all the movie clips from the Crips and Bloods documentary. During the movie I took notes that I was going to use in the process of producing my paper. The videos were extremely interesting I found a lot of correlations between the Culture, Wealth, and Crime that I never thought of and found some ironic information from the videos that were truly interesting and intriguing. I am going to watch the rest of the videos another day and take the notes together and write my paper!

Today I reviewed some of the articles that were posted that I did not read if they were not apart of the assignments that I decided to choose for each week. I found some interesting articles, but realized I was happy with my choices that I picked for my assignments. I also started researching the questions that were posted on the blackboard discussion. In on of my goals I decided that I really wanted to focus on doing better on the quizzes and this is an action that I am taking to succeed in this goal. The past two quizzes, I have felt a lot better them with the changes that I made midterm. Excited to see how the rest of the term goes, and hope I continue the same success.

Today I finished the assignment for this week. I found it actually interesting and very helpful to my learning style. I like answering questions from materials, but also answering in my own opinion and thoughts and connections from class. I have added little things in addition to just the question so that I can look over this assignment later on. Happy Halloween!

Today I started to look at this week assignment, I watched the first two movie clips and responded to the questions that I felt I could answer with my own opinions and knowledge gained from the clips. To cater to my own learning style I have added my own questions that I felt that have added to my learning. I also am adding some other research that I found helpful after making the connection from the assignment to class to better my whole learning experience. Also this week our group decided on a topic that we feel fits our group’s goal. We decided to focus on education. I have done some research on different ideas that I find interesting in the topic and that goes along with the questions that we brainstormed about for our debate.
Monday, October 25, 2010 FEED BACK CHANGES
From the Feedback from the Lance I learned that I need to change some of my goals to make sure that I am getting everything out of the course that I want. So here I am going to state some of my new goals that I want to accomplish from here on out. So some of my new goals are:
1. Find a new method to do better on the quizzes, this may consist of every night reviewing the slides and notes that I took from class to better prepare for the in class quizzes. Also I want to meet and communicate with Lance to see if there is another method that I can do or assignments that I can come up with to make up points that I missed on the quizzes.
2. I want to take advantage of being able to tailor the assignments to my preferences and learning abilities. I want to start coming up with changes, or new assignments that will help me better learn the material and connect it to real life situations.
3. I want to start making progress with my grades, I feel that in the assignments I am doing a great job, but I have always been on to do well in school and seeing my grades not be as high as they should be makes me more determined to do better.
4. To make this class a little more meaningful to me, I want to a topic that I can really excel on and take with me after the course is over. Many courses are all memorization until the final exam is over, I want to be able to get extremely passionate and knowledgable about a topic, and know that I will actually know the material after class and be able to use it in my every day life.

Today I am working on my write up for the three locations that are for the Eugene land cost. I am finding that there could be more to the cost of the rent then just the locations of the residences. You can see this especially with the two different apartments. But one can see that there is a preference that can be skewing the results of the research. Not many students beyond freshmen (1st year) want to reside on campus. This is really interesting to me and hope that it is conveyed in my research and write up of the project.

During this time I went around to the three locations that I selected for my land/rent comparison. I decided that I wanted to compare rent cost starting based on location. I started with a dorm room that was located in the center of campus, then looked at two different apartments that were owned by the same rental company. One of the apartments was only 2 blocks from campus then another that was 12 blocks away. I went and looked at the apartments and asked the people living there what they loved about living there and wish they could have.

I spent a lot of time on this assignment. It became a little over my head again, but was determined to understand the reading. I took my time rereading a lot of the sections to ensure that I was getting out what the author intended me too. It took a while to get through the outline and reading it at the same time, so I took breaks between it a lot so that I didn’t get too overwhelmed or frustrated. Not my favorite assignment, but it did push myself to get it done and do something outside my comfort zone.

I started to work on the project but decided to change which assignment I picked. I felt that I needed to do a little more indepth reading for the course and felt that I would get more out of doing the outline. During this time I started reading the article for the outline. There were a couple parts where the reading seemed to be a little over my head. But rereading and reading slow helped me connect a little more and understand a little more.

Today I took the time to start reading some of the article Small is Beautiful. Also I started looking at the questions and reviewing them with notes that I have taken in class and previous knowledge of some of the questions that were provided for option 2. I feel that I need to take a lot more time to deeply fill out the answers to the questions. But took the time to take little review of the assignment.

Today I finished up the rest of the assignment for week 2. While watching the Food Inc. videos and answering the questions I started to connect topics that we have discussed in class with ideas and thoughts that were brought up in the question for the assignment. Reviewing the topics from class on Wednesday October 6th I saw examples and relations to clustering and processing goods. Many of the questions were related to these topics and having them in lecture helped me answer the questions and feel more confident about the answers. I found the videos interesting and actually relatable. Well worth the time and effort that went into this assignment.

I started on the week two assignment, I decided that I was going to do the option 1 with the videos from Food Inc. I watched the first 4 videos while answering the questions. It brought things to my attention that I never realized. It was extremely interesting to me to see that so much goes into the production of food that I never realized. I know that there have been horrible treatment of animals and to be cautious of that but the amount that I did not know was amazing. I find this assignment actually very intriguing and interesting and excited to continue it and learn more.

Today I finished the last part of the assignment and read through it to ensure that it was something that I was proud of. Also today I emailed the professor to ask about how to submit the assignment, if i could send it through a link or have to print it off. This was also working towards completely a goal that was on my course long goals. I wanted to be able to communicate with my professor and starting to do that today today!

Starting the process of figuring out the work log format and week 1 assignments. I got into the class late and missed the first class, therefore, I am trying to interpret the assignment based on the instruction sheet. Hopefully will get some questions answered during the class about everything so that I will feel a little bit more confident with what I am doing. I am getting excited for this class and ready to actually get to be in the class and join a group.
